 SINK OR SWIM

Jesus was led into the wilderness to be tempted by Satan (Matthew 4:1-11).  Although He was tempted three times, He was tempted by three distinct temptations.  I’m reminded of the ship Titanic.  Upon its maiden voyage, there was such an arrogant confidence and glory given to this ship that one shipmate was even quoted saying, “God Himself couldn’t sink this ship.”  Where I have not noticed much attention is on the sister ship.”Britannic.  The Britannic sank also, although by a distinct cause of its own.  It was the fiery heat of deliberate explosion that rendered this ship to its demise.

Our lives are much the same in the sense that Satan attempts to sink us spiritually using distinct temptations.  So we must be careful not to become arrogantly self-confident, lest we (sink) or fall. We must also be careful not to focus too much on our past sin failures, lest we become vulnerable in some other distinct area of our lives. For such reasons, we should avoid ever having confidence in our own strength to overcome temptation.  For God gives us victory to overcome temptation, not on our own strength, but by our faith I His Son Jesus Christ, all for His glory (1 John 5:4,5).  Let’s keep our focus on the Savior rather than the sin.

Following the Titanic sinking, its sister ship was simply reamed the Britannic rather than its originally intended name GIGANTIC.  Remember, it’s much better to be humble than to be humbled.
